Merseyside Police: End of Season 2014/15 review.
The Blue Union attended a meeting in St Annes Street on Tuesday along with officials from Everton Football Club, Liverpool Football Club, Football Supporters Federation, Level Playing Field and Merseyside Police. The meeting gave all parties the opportunity to have a full, open and frank discussion on Policing of games held here on Merseyside and further afield at our away fixtures.
Its refreshing to here that games on Merseyside are reversing the national trend, with arrests, ejections and Football Banning Orders down on the previous season. Merseyside Police also confirmed that the behaviour of Evertonians, both home and away was exemplary and no major issues surrounding disorder at any games this season.
Clearly a work in progress, with far more positives than negatives. We also discussed the heavy handed approach adopted by the Police in our game in France against Lille to the marching of our European counterparts from the City Centre to Goodison Park Ticket, Touting and Stubhub.
A large part of the meeting was taken up discussing Merseyside Polices opposition to 5.30 Kick Off for Derby game. Lessons have ben learnt from last season and the Police are keen to work jointly with the clubs and fan groups to ensure that this season games pass without incident. Further meetings with the Premier League, Liverpool City Council are planned.
It was interesting to note that a Press Release from Merseyside Police to the Liverpool Echo applauding the behaviour of fans wasn’t reported on.
